Saw this last night at a Fievel’s Live Journal blog. Don’t know if it was the wine and beer, but I couldn’t get it out of my freaking head. The animation is cute and the music is quite funny. At first I thought these were the actual toys but then I realized, “Hey, that hand doesn’t come with that toy!” dawned on me. Love the stop motion look. ウマウマ!

Here’s an animation I’ve been meaning to post for a while. This is a small animation scene from Sung-jin. The influence was from Nickelodeon’s Avatar the Last Airbender.

First off a gigantoid THANK YOU to my buddies Shingo of HD and Ando-ryuu for making this happen! So what the hell am I talking about? We here at CM! have apparently completed the first phase of circle application (paying) for this winter’s Comiket 75!

So what does this mean? It means there maybe a possibility that CM! will have a table at THE otaku convention selling our very own dirty dirty doujinshi. If it happens, could we be the first circle from America to attend (other than Shingo)?

Have any of you been or sold at the Comiket before? If so, let us know your experience. Yummy yummy doujinshi….:3

Forget about the sasquatch hoax, what I bring to you today is the real thing! Street Fighter IV in the wild!!!

I caught a article over at Kotaku the other day regarding possibly the first Street Fighter IV machine in the US. Located in Walnut, California, a couple buddies and I went to go check it out after a run to Frank & Sons since we were in the area.

Located in a strip mall across from Mt. SAC, Super Arcade looked like your average runned down arcade. With Astro City cabinets all over the place. A small crowd was surrounding the Tekken 6 and Street Fighter IV machines. Seemed like there was reigning undefeated winner that day, as we watched him take out each challenger with the every hair fashionable Guile.

The Crowd

Here’s a video of the game in action:

I’m surprised no one mentioned this on the interwebz….At the San Diego Comic Con 2008 last month, the Organics booth had two prototypes of Batman in revoltech form. The label says it was from the Dark Knight movie and from the looks of the armor, it is. I’m pretty sure Kaiyodo and Organics will release some information soon about it!

Another Comic Con has come and gone! It was tiresome, awesome and just down right pungent! This years experience was a lot better in terms of crowd control and the organization of the convention. Unlike last year, the aisles seemed to have less traffic. This maybe due to the Con only letting in pre-reg attendees only. I definitely hope this trend continues because this will help me avoid eating farts and bathing in cheese like B.O.

The schwag this year was a bit disappointing as I walked away with way less than I expected. My guess of cause is due to the internet and it’s ability to leak information before you even arrive at the convention floor. The previous years, all my buying was based on my nerd impulse. Within the last couple years, I have found myself researching and prepping what I wanted to buy beforehand. Thus making the hole in my wallet smaller. By being aware of the product that’s going to be there, you takes away the surprise element of it all.

The booths were rad and ridiculous this year from Cast GreySkull to the NightOwl’s ship from the upcoming Watchmen movie. My favorite was seeing the Ghostbusters game finally in action. I heard that it’s suppose to be a sequel to the previous two existing films. What’s even better is the original cast is back voicing the characters with the exception of Rick Moranis. “We’ll always have Honey I Shrunk the Kids…..”

The costumes were great. Nothing that was ridiculously horrible or bad in my opinion. It seems everyone has started upping the bar when it comes to American cosplaying. I wish I would’ve taken more pictures though….

All in all, I had an amazing time meeting new people and making new friends. The parties were crazy, leaving me hungover each night we went out. Comic con is truly the nerd’s Mardi Gras! Where you can buy your comics and toys during the day and get blitzed crazy at night! What more can you ask for? Being surrounded by people of common interest and toys….PE•TEW! I look forward to next years frenzy and the fun that it may bring!

After the Comic-con, I’ve somehow managed to catch a flu bug. Don’t know if it’s due to exhaustion or if someone gave me the nerd plague, but it’s completely hindering all my functions.

ANYHOW, my favorite Japanese animation studio, Studio 4ºC, just released a 2nd trailer of their next installment of short compilations, Genius Party. Genius Party Beyond, which it’s called, contains five short by some of the most talented directors in Japan. Genius Party Beyond will open in theaters October 11th in Japan. I still need to get my hands on the first DVD, maybe when I head over at the end of this year! Here is the list of the shorts and their directors:

  • Gala: Mahiro Maeda
  • Moondrive: Kazuto Nakazawa
  • Wanwa: Shinya Ohira
  • Toujin Kit: Cannabis Works
  • Dimension Bomb: Koji Morimoto

Here’s the first trailer in case you haven’t seen it:

Thanks George for the heads up!

Just got back from this years San Diego Comic Con and I am completely wiped out! I have managed to survive another year of extreme nerdation and heavy alcohol consumption. Made a lot of new comrades this year but bought fewer things. I’ll post a full review in the next couple of days while I try to recooperate from this weekend. Here’s a few quick new words to add to your vocabulary that was developed at Comic Con this year:

  1. EXPENSO!: A fake guido way of saying expensive in your most horrible Italian accent. Yelled when you see something at a booth thats way to expensive.
  2. PE•TEW: Onomatopoeia for finger laser ray guns. Can defend yourself from muggers trying to steal your Star Wars toy.
  3. Master, Hunter, Attack Dog: Chain of hierarchy command of good friends with a mission. New Russel Crowe movie.

Like the beautiful and majestic migrant monarch butterfly, once every year we nerds flock down to the San Diego Comic con to blow wads of cash and for the extremely rare, mate. I’ll be taking off tomorrow morning and thanks to the Wordpress app on the Iphone, it means that immediate miniblogging will be guarnteed.

If you’re going, what are you looking forward to the most?

Ah, another step into darkness. Continuing with my Ginko costume from Mushishi, the biggest and most challenging element of getting the Ginko costume together is the wooden box or kibako. I had a couple of preliminary ideas of using alternative materials instead of wood. This was based on the idea of weight, heat and look. In the end, wood was decided since it gave the box a realistic feel to it.

This is the kibako constructed but with out the stain. The box ending up being about 15lbs. which is quite light in nerd and otaku terms. Since we’ve carried way more heavier things in our backpacks!

The straps are just belts bought from Target. They loop around and just buckle up inside the box.

Ready to be stained!

The box in the anime is a dark nutty brown color. I thought that I should stay away from that since it might make the box look like it was hacked together from a left over dining table from grandma’s house. Went with the ebony stain which I’m still unsure of whether it was a good idea since the box looks black/brown.

できた! Here it is, the finished product! It’s a bit black but it gives it that old Japanese wood-look to it. So hopefully it will look better when it’s in full light? What do you guys think?
